Coast Live Project : REFLECTION - Week 8
Week eight Summary
During week eight everybody started the production of the final garments . I have had finished all my toile and started on cutting my final fabric . I have also made embroidery for my bags. Exactly BAGS , I am making not one but two bags!!!!FUN!!!I was very excited to get the fabric for the bags embroidered as fast a possible and start on the final production but the embroidery machine was brokenAt this stage everybody knows what they are doing and everyone is just carrying on with their work.
I have started cutting my final jumpsuit fabric and the bags.
I have decided to show why did it take me so long to DO MY PATTERNS. I was trying to achive the best fit by using the least amount of fabric possible . Both of the fabrics I am using for the Jumpsuit are digitally printed so i was trying to achieve the most efficient way to reduce the size of my pattern so it still looks drapey but it uses less fabric .I have done a total of around 30 layplans and modification sets in order to achieve this .
Examples of lay plans calculations with the help of Lectra Marker Manager

Coast Live Project -Reflection Week 7
Week Seven Summary
This week has been fun . As a group we ll have started our final toiles production , and I am really happy . Our work sits well together and you can't event tell that we ever had a major split.I have had an internal fight on what my second garment is going to be . I was advise to do a small scarf like cover up with sleeves . The Coast representatives liked the sleeves from my second garment during the last meeting .But i didn't want to have two outfits , I wanted to have 2 garments. This week I have been pattern cutting my soul out .
I have finished all the changes on my jumpsuit , and started on the cover up . The cover up patterns are not that complicated . It is just a twisted sleeve . I have tried on different versions of it before I have realized that maybe this wasn't the best advised I was given . My jumpsuit would not look good with an extra garment on top , so I have decided to look into something different :ACCESSORIES . That is right I am doing bags. I want to do something like an elegant drawstring bag. This is the first time I am making bags and let me tell you I am a bit scared . All in all it is good practice and I am sure it is going to be a real help to know how to make a bag in third year.
The drama in our group is finally done . I have chosen not to complicate my life anymore and just focus on my work . I would help people with simple questions , but I won't spend time demonstrating people how to use Software or how to patter cut .
This week we had to submit a small presentation for Coast ,almost like an introduction to our project proposal. Given the fact that I was very dissatisfied with the format of the last presentation I have taken charge of this one . I believe it is important to keep the graphics of the presentation in tone with the Coast image. There was a short delay into submitting it , but we managed to get everything send through and our unit leader really liked the Presentation. The Session we had with Carl this week was very helpful as it we got clear roles and duties to be assigned for the preparation of the presentation . I am in charged with all the boards , putting together the presentation , the Illustrated Line-up and styling ideas.
Our group is working very well now and I hope everything i going to be smooth until our Hand In.
We had a meeting about the plain fabrics that were going to be used for the final garments .
Final Plain Fabric Selection
Fabric Swatches
It was not easy to get everybody together and help people find appropriate fabrics they like for their designs and that also work with the brand we are working for : Coast .The cost of some of those fabrics was exorbitant as well . I have taken the initiative to go though the cupboard and found a couple of gorgeous fabrics at cheaper prices.
As Coast advised us to stitch with the colors from this print that they have really liked I have done an assignment board in which I have tried to spread the chromatic spectrum of the print evenly .
